Periferia Creative contacted me to elaborate a comprehensive user interface proposal for a website of the Barcelona City Council. The web is a meeting point between the user and the city, through news and relevant editorial content, as well as an accessible repository of information.
The structure of the website was given by the client and was based on the existence of three fundamental sections, from which we have access to all the content. The first section presented editorial contents of a very diverse nature, related to art and culture trends. The second one is based on outstanding news related to the city of Barcelona. And the third was a repository of downloadable documents of diverse nature.
The proposal starts from the fragmentation of the information in individual micro-cards with different formats, depending on their content. I created a whole series of cards exemplifying all the possibilities. The tissue of ordered cards constitutes the very user interface, respecting a well-established grid, a powerful color treatment and editorial lines compatible with the image given by the client.
The second proposal was closer to the online content already developed by the client, using a simpler structure of textual content illustrated and enriched by all types of functional modules. This proposal presents a more neutral —and perhaps less daring— interface, where content is the absolute protagonist.
